The World Harmony Foundation reaches out to all Heads of State, Parliamentarians, Mayors, Community and Business Leaders along with Students and Educators from around the world to make their commitments to Peace and create Cultures of Peace with Sustainable Environments, by building partnerships with each and joining our "Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony" Program which creates Harmony Bells for Peace.
Through our Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony program, the metal for future Harmony Bells for Peace will be created from shredded decommissioned weapons and recycled metal donated by Heads of State, Parliamentarians, Mayors and Community and Business Leaders, and combined with recycled scrap metal collected and donated by Students around the world. Educators are encouraged to create curriculums around this concept by implementing Peace and Environmental studies for Students. Business Leaders are welcome to give financial support to this program.
The Harmony Bell for Peace can be rung by people from all walks of life. It was first officially presented and rung for the United Nations 60th Anniversary Ceremony and Celebration on October 24th, 2005 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. During the Ceremony the Harmony Bell was rung by H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, the Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Jan Eliasson, the 60th President of the United Nations General Assembly and H.E. Mr. Minhea Motoc, Ambassador of Romania to the United Nations, also President of the Security Council for October 2005 to ring in "A Time for Renewal" the theme of the UN60th Anniversary.
PROGRAM INSPIRATION
The World Harmony Foundation was honored to have H. E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, to be the first Head of State to ring the Harmony Bell for Peace along with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste at the Fashion Institute of Technology on January 21st, 2005, in New York City. President Gusmao's commitment to Peace and Harmony has been the inspiration for our "Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony" program to create Harmony Bells for Peace which will be donated to Civic Centers, Schools and Hospitals around the world. The design of the Harmony Bell for Peace has the word Harmony in the six official languages of the United Nations going around the center of the Bell with elements from nature. The metal for this first Harmony Bell was made from casings of ammunition which was donated by the Chinese Military and was combined with recycled scrap metal collected and donated by school children. All future Harmony Bells for Peace will have the same design.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Global Recycling For Peace and Harmony Containers for Schools
The containers our organization has designed will be sent to schools around the world to Students and Educators who wish to be participants in the Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony program and invite our program to be at their schools. Each of these containers will be made from recycled materials and will be the same height as the Harmony Bells for Peace, which is 4 1\2 feet high by 6 feet long by 3 feet wide. There will be a commitment to Peace from a World or Community Leader stated on each of the containers, as well as a picture and description of the Harmony Bell for Peace with the mission of the World Harmony Foundation on both sides of each container. The containers will be delivered to the Schools and then later shipped to Master Bell Makers in China at no expense to the Students and Educators or Schools participating in our program.
Student Leadership Awards
Students who participate in our programs are asked to write essays on how working in partnership with World and Local Leaders can help to create Cultures of Peace with Sustainable Environments for present and future generations. Essays that are sent by the Educators to the World Harmony Foundation headquarters in New York City, will qualify to win our annual World Harmony Foundation's Student Leadership Award. Students with the winning essays will receive an award of $1,000 each, as well as accommodations and transportation to New York City for a Lunch or Dinner Ceremony at the United Nations where UN officials and honored guests will be attending for the Award presentation. A certificate from our organization will be given to the Students thanking them for their accomplishments and commitments to Peace.
*Each Student's chaperone will be provided with accommodations and transportation to this event as well.
CREATING PEACE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CURRICULUMS
Our Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony program encourages Educators to develop curriculums on Peace and Sustainable Environmental Studies. This program creates Global Initiatives of building partnerships between Students and World/Local Leaders. By working together they will ensure safe environments for present and future generations.
We ask Educators and their Schools who are participating in this program to allow if possible, World Harmony Foundation representatives, Community and Business Leaders as well as Local News and Media to visit the schools and join in a Celebratation with the Students and Educators where photos will be taken to capture the moment of the containers departing from each School and beginning the Journey to the Master Bell Makers in China, as well as to acknowledge the Students, Educators and Schools for their commitments to build Cultures of Peace with Sustainable Environments.
Each school's container will be logged and recorded once it arrives at the Master Bell Makers location. There will be a record of which participants contributed to each Harmony Bell for Peace. Participants will be inscribed on the inside of each Bell and noted on the certificate which accompanies the Harmony Bells as they travel and serve as Ambassadors of Peace throughout the world. The Harmony Bells for Peace along with the certificates and a documented history of where each Harmony Bell has traveled and who has rung them will later be donated to Civic Centers, Schools and Hospitals.
