HARMONY BELLS FOR PEACE

The Harmony Bell for Peace was created by the World Harmony Foundation for the United Nations 60th Anniversary Ceremony and Celebrations for United Nations Day, on October 24th, 2005 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

RINGING OF THE HARMONY BELL FOR PEACE
During the UN60th Anniversary Ceremony, to ring in "A Time of Renewal" the Harmony Bell was first officially rung by H.E. Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Jan Eliasson, President of the UN60th General Assembly, as well as H.E. Mr. Minhea Motoc, Ambassador of Romania to the United Nations, who was the President of the UN Security Council for October 2005.

At the Fashion Institute of Technology, January 21st, 2006 in New York City, the World Harmony Foundation was honored when H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, who became the first Head of State to ring the Harmony Bell for Peace along with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste.

President Gusmao's moral guidance and leadership for Timor-Leste's rise from 25 years of conflict to Peace and Harmony has been the inspiration for our "Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony" program which creates the Harmony Bells for Peace. Our program will use shredded, decommissioned weapons and recycled metal donated by World and Local Leaders who want to make their commitments to Peace, and combine it with recycled scrap metal, collected and donated by Students from communities around the world to create future Harmony Bells for Peace.

THE HARMONY BELLS FOR PEACE DESIGN
The design for the Harmony Bell for Peace is the word Harmony in the six official languages of the United Nations going around the center of the Bell with elements of nature. The metal for this first Harmony Bell was made from casings of ammunition, which was donated by the Chinese Military and combined with the recycled scrap metal collected and donated by school children. The measurements of the Harmony Bell is 4 1/2 feet high and 60cm in diameter (the 60cm symbolizes the UN60th Anniversary). The stand which the Harmony Bell hangs from is 2005cm high for the year the first Harmony Bell was created. The Mallet to ring the Bell is made from recycled wood. The Harmony Bell was crafted and molded by Master Bell Makers in China.

THE FUTURE FOR THE HARMONY BELLS FOR PEACE
The World Harmony Foundation's "Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony" program is to create future Harmony Bells for Peace to raise awareness. Heads of State, Parliamentarians and Mayors who want to make commitments to Peace and Harmony, make contributions of donated shredded decommissioned weapons and recycled metal from their Countries and Cities which will be combined with, recycled metal donated by Community and Business Leaders as well as recycled scrap metal collected and donated by Students around the world to create the future Harmony Bells for Peace.

CREATING PEACE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CURRICULUMS
Our Global Recycling for Peace and Harmony program encourages Educators to create Peace and Environmental Curriculums. This program is an opportunity for Global Initiatives to build partnerships between Students and World Leaders. By working together they will ensure safe environments for present and future generations.
