ABOUT US

Established in July 2004, the World Harmony Foundation is dedicated to building Cultures of Peace and Sustainable Environments for all people.

We promote the ideals and principles of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. To further support these ideals, our organization donated to the United Nations, the printing of the "A Time for Renewal", UN60th Anniversary Posters and the UN60th Charter Posters for the United Nations 60th Anniversary Celebration to be distributed worldwide.

The Harmony Bell for Peace was designed by the World Harmony Foundation to be included as part of the UN60th Anniversary Ceremony and Celebration held on October 24, 2005 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The Harmony Bell can be rung by all people who believe in making commitments to Peace.

The World Harmony Foundation was awarded Accreditation and Consultative status to the United Nations Environment Programme's Governing Council as of February, 2005.

Our Global Initiatives for Peace and Environmental Education program will bring Heads of State, Parliamentarians, and Mayors with Community and Business Leaders together with Students and Educators from around the world by creating partnerships with the common goals of developing and building Cultures of Peace with Sustainable Environments for present and future generations.

WHF promote “Eight Harmonies” in our mission: Harmony between Human Beings and Nature; Harmony between Country and Country; Harmony between People and Society; Harmony between People; Harmony between Religions; Harmony in Economic Development; Harmony between Cultures, and Harmony within the Human-self body (which is human healthy).

During the UN 60th Anniversary commemoration, our Harmony Bell for Peace was first officially rung by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, president of the UN General Assembly Mr. Jan Eliasson, and H.E. mr. Minhea Motoc, Permanent Representative of Romania to the UN and President of the UN Security Council for the month of October 2005.

On January 21, 2006, in New York City, the World Harmony Foundation was honored when H.E. Mr. Xanana Gusmao, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, became the first Head of State to ring the Harmony Bell, along with Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, H.E. Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta, who is the current President of Timor-Leste.

Exactly one year ago, the World Harmony Foundation promoted another special event for Wall Street executives and directors of major philanthropic organizations to engage in an informal dialogue with H.E. Xanana Gusmao on modalities for implementing the MDGs and the other internationally agreed development goals on Timor-Leste.

In May 2006, upon the initiative of the US Congress, the Harmony Bell was rung by many high-ranking US Congressional Representatives on Capitol Hill to promote harmony between the US and other countries.

In March 2008, the World Harmony Foundation was invited by the “Art of the Olympians” project of the World Olympians Assn., officially recognized by the Intl. Olympic Committee, to bring the Harmony Bell to the Olympic Reunion Center in Beijing, China, for the duration of the Games of the XXIX Summer Olympiad, where the bell was rung by many famous Olympic champions after the welcoming speech of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

In 2007, the World Harmony Foundation was invited by the UN Division on Public Administration to have the Harmony Bell rung at a side event of the 7th Global Forum on Reinventing Government. The Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, representing the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, rang the Harmony Bell at this event.

The World Harmony Foundation has supported many UN events, such as UN World Environment Day in San Francisco, by bringing an all-woman orchestra from China; sponsoring and organizing two UN Spring Festivals at the time of the Chinese Lunar New Year, organized in close cooperation with Mr. Chen Jian, at that time the Under-Secretary-General of the Dept. of General Assembly Affairs and Conference Services; two commemorations of World Water Day, in close cooperation with H.E. Anwarul Chowdhury, then USG of OHRLLS; the 64th Annual UN Day Concert with the theme of honoring UN Peacekeeping, held in close cooperation with UN DPI and Chief of its Outreach Division, Mr. Eric Falt; facilitation of all aspects of UN Staff Day, in close cooperation with the UN Staff Association; and currently are working in close cooperation with the UN World Tourism Organization on a possible conference on sustainable tourism in China.

We have received preliminarily a positive initial response from the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Desertification to hold an event with the Harmony Bell on 17 June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro during the thematic days preceding Rio + 20 to commemorate the UN Day to Combat Desertification.

To promote the work of faith communities within the agenda of the Alliance Among Civilizations, we would like to support the Alliance in its work with religious and spiritual traditions, and would be prepared to speak with you and our sponsor Madam Jiang Lin, Chairman of the World Chinese Union General, who is a noted philanthropist, and who would be willing to attend the 7 February meeting in the UN General Assembly at the culmination of world Interfaith Harmony Week with our donation.

To facilitate this informal meeting, the sponsor would very much appreciate an invitation letter so that her visa application could be presented in China. The web sites of her organization are www.wuca.net and www.wpgai.org

World Harmony Foundation is also planning to launch a World Religious Harmony Conference on 22 April 2012, Earth Day, in China, and we would like to be able to build on the recent Alliance conference and Youth Pre-conference meeting that you held in December 2011. We sincerely invite you as the delegation leader with five heads of five religious from USA to be our keynote speakers, all of your expense will be born by WHF.
